POSITION DESCRIPTION

The Medical Assistant (MA) will support the medical team with various administrative tasks in an excellence-focused outpatient primary care setting. The Medical Assistant will be responsible for facilitating a continuum of patients’ care utilizing advanced knowledge, experience, and skills to ensure the appropriate utilization of resources.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Fulfills organizational responsibilities efficiently, which may include but not be limited to:
    • Clinical Tasks:
      • Phlebotomy
      • Perform vital signs
      • Performing 12-lead EKGs
      • Perform vision/audiology screenings
      • Administer DEXA body-composition scans and VO2 max testing
    • Administrative Responsibilities:
      • Manage medical supplies inventory
      • Facilitate receipt distribution communication via phone, fax, email, internal digital databases, and physical documents
      • Schedule annual physicals and MD visits
      • Facilitate medical records requests
    • Care Coordination:
      • Facilitate daily member service delivery
      • Schedule outreaches
      • Facilitate administration of medical referrals, orders, and outside appointments
  • Works as a team member; recognizes problems with patients, staff, or operations and works quickly to resolve the problem. Identifies ways to improve practice operations.
  • Uses, protects, and discloses SHIFT patients’ protected health information (PHI) in accordance with Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) standards.
  • Maintains effective communication with physicians, SHIFT care team members, clinical vendors, external care providers, hospitals, patients, and, when appropriate, patients’ families.
  • Implements, monitors, and recommends improvements to care management programs and practices within policies and procedures set by the Lead Physician.
  • Provides accurate information to patients and families regarding membership benefits, resources, referrals, medications, treatments, and other related issues.
  • Performs other duties as required or directed by supervisor.

YOUR QUALIFICATIONS

- Current certification in one of the following five eligible certification exams: AAMA, AMT, NCCT, NHA, NRCMA
- American Heart Association-accredited Basic Life Support (BLS/CPR) certification
- 2+ years of Phlebotomy experience required
- 3+ years of Administrative, Executive Assistant, or Care Coordination experience preferred
- EPIC electronic medical record experience preferred
- Strong customer service skills
- Ability to perform all work in compliance with all medical laws and regulations
- Naturally organized and reliable, making sure tasks are completed accurately and promptly
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Uses professionalism and diplomacy in interpersonal interactions with members, guests, and staff
- Able to learn, retain, and accurately use information regarding patient care policies and procedures
- Proficient working with all Microsoft Office products and Adobe Acrobat
- Works well in a team environment, bringing and encouraging positive energy
- Able to think critically within SHIFT policies and procedures
- Able to adapt to change
- Diligent, resilient, positive, and articulate
- Able to oversee multiple projects and balance competing priorities
- A proven track-record of handling sensitive and confidential matters
